Group Descriptions:
On the first Saturday of each month, Simone's Skills group will focus on topics like:
- mindfulness
- emotional regulation
- interpersonal relationships + communication
- radical acceptance.
mindfulness. we will dive into the history of mindfulness through a Theravada Buddhist perspective, learn about the differences between meditation and mindfulness, discover different types of mindfulness, and explore the plethora of ways to seamlessly integrate mindfulness approaches into our current lifestyle and religious/spiritual practice.
emotional regulation. we will explore emotions through a scientific framework. we will learn what emotions do for us, how we can collaborate with our emotions, and learn to 'notice, distinguish, and target' the differences between signals, activations, and triggers. we will build an emotional 'defib' (aka safety plan) based on our own emotions and individually tailored approaches from an evidenced-based perspective.
interpersonal relationships + communication. in school, we learned how to read, write, and speak- but no one taught us how to really communicate with each other effectively. together we will explore social norms and rituals, practice empathic communication, and learn how to understand others while expressing our wants, needs, and desires to build healthy and long-lasting relationships.
radical acceptance. the end is often the beginning and the beginning is often the end. we will explore the concept of radical acceptance from: anthropological, religious, spiritual, and scientific perspectives. we will explore our own beliefs, discover what others believe in, and attune ourselves to our own version of a 'higher power'.
Have you been searching for a space where others are just as committed to healing as you are? Look no further, join us ADHD'ers each month for a "Special Interest Showcase and Discussion". we will share: updates on our special interests, discover a sense of belonging with other like-minded folks, and build a uniquely tailored tool box for each of our specialized needs.
Life Skills Group will focus on building manageable and sustainable lifestyle rituals and routines to reduce stress when feeling overwhelmed, overstimulated, and burnt out by demands. Each month we will cook 1-2 nutritionally balanced dishes (vegan, gluten-free, kosher, low histamine, and sometimes nut/seed/tofu free) based off of traditional Thai dishes and easy to grab+go snacks. We will begin and end each meeting with a mindfulness practice that will involve movement, such as: stretch, expressive movement, and bilateral tapping. The movement will be adapted based on each individual and mods are encouraged for each body type.
